Why did you make a stand and become more eco friendly and more eco conscience?

What pushed you to become eco?

Are your changes affecting others in your community?

Personally, I made a stand and became more eco friendly because of the affects global warming had on my country. Also the news on global warming elsewhere in the world. I believe that everyone should become more eco friendly to help people in other countries directly affected by global warming, such as Africa. Most of Africa is being affected by global warming in the form of droughts and the expansion of deserts destoying farm land and people's cattle grounds etc. Therefore I think that some people that don't take global warming seriously are selfish and I don't want to be selfish in not taking notice of the affects of global warming so I made my stand.

I'm planning to raise awareness in my area although I am just getting started with being more eco friendly.

I was born on Earth Day, did not find out till about 20 years ago, but ironic as it may seem, i wanted to be a Marine Biologist since third grade. Until the invention of the computer i was very active in my town, now i have set my goals globally with the technology allowing to organize across the world, i have dedicated my birthday and everyday to solve the problem of cigarette litter, by making public ashtrays that educate out of cigarette filters themselves. www.myspace.com/earthday78 check Responsible Smokers Act out.... i am just glad the people on this planet are finally turning green!

I'm not the most active of people when it comes to convincing others in these matters, but I like to think that I do my bit. I became knowledgeable about green concerns when I was back in primary school (kindergarten to the Americans) as they ran green issues as part of our curriculum. However, despite always thinking along green lines as a kid, I never really took the importance of the issues into context until I became part of our green team at work. It's not just a minority interest now, it's actually a policy for businesses to act upon. It really hit home how important this could be. As somebody who has always been interested in ecological matters this has really added to my awareness. However, I will always credit those primary school lessons for my interest.

As a smoker I felt the need to respond to earthday78's post. I smoke, and I have recently found a new hobby in walking in the countryside. As repulsive as they idea may sound, after putting a cigarette out and squeezing the ash and remaining tobacco out a cigarette butt can even be dropped into a pocket without it smelling. The tobacco being plant matter will disintegrate very easily, and you can dispose of the filter in your usual way without leaving it littering a countryside path. The important thing to remember here is that filter isn't bio-degradable and it really makes a mess of a good countryside pursuit, let alone it's environmental impact.
