Latest Activity

There were several people powered merry go rounds and the like at Maker Faire. If the conversion to generate power would be too much for the school districts, perhaps items like the people powered devices could be used.

Yes! Visible "guts" and science! I know programs are being cut, sad, kids need time to burn physical energy and come back in the class with fresh mental energy. Obesity is going up and activity is going down, Not to mention the fact prescriptions ...

The only problem is that a lot of districts are so underfunded that they're cutting recess and PE. But I get what you mean. The guts of the equipment could be made visible, so kids can get a science fix by seeing how generators work.

Why can't swing sets, merry-go-rounds, teeter-totters and teether ball be used to generate power for schools? The kids could "do their part" to help out, it would help with obesity and perhaps earn some type of tax credits! Let kids burn energy wh...

Profile Information

Hometown:
Olympia
Relationship Status:
Married
About Me:
I don't define myself by what I know, as I hope that constantly changes day to day. I try to remain open minded and eager to learn; reminding myself that life is about experiences and not to let my ego grab the reins.

I'm many things, to say "I am" one thing or another makes no sense to me. I have many hobbies and passions, ask and I'll share. My beliefs are firm, they come from "learning" not from being "taught", while I am open to hearing you, please do not feel the need to try and change me or my mind; as I will give you the same respect.

I enjoy humorous, happy, energetic, smart, friendly people to talk to and always welcome a friend into conversation.
Favorite Music:
Anything but what is on the radio, on Sirius radio there are still some good stations out there, just harder to find. Right now I am in to The Weepies, awesome happy deep music with real meaning good harmony and very well written.
Favorite TV Shows:
I am digging on the Smithsonian channel, history, nova, science- anything you an learn from.

I have to admit I love The Office.

Children have the Power!!

Why can't swing sets, merry-go-rounds, teeter-totters and tether ball all be used to generate power for schools? The kids could "do their part" to help out, it would help with obesity and perhaps earn some type of tax credits! Let kids burn energy while they produce it. This would give children a sense of pride and "team spirit". How about this for a slogan, "Go Green, Go Lean, Go Play".

In hard economic times does Green turn brown?

Have you noticed since our economy has taken a hit you have seen fewer and fewer "Green" advertisements from the main stream area? I have, it makes me worry a little bit. Not that the "Green Trend" was in fact just a trend, we all know that many corporations jumped on what they saw as a Green Cash Cow when they had the chance. What worries me is, will caring about the environment take a complete back seat now, if it even keeps a seat at all.

I understand people are going through hard times righ… Continue

Oxfam says biofuels pushing 30 million into poverty.

This is actually very sad. We need change but, is making "our world "better while causing "the world" others know, to crumble really a better life choice.....no. Here is the link to this full story: http://www.reuters.com/article/environmentNews/idUSL2432915720080625

It is worth a read. In a time where we hear so many cry about gas prices yet at the same time witness them buying a $5 cup of coffee, one can ask if we are losing sight of what really needs to change; before we are all blinded by w… Continue

The HYmini -Personal Wind Charger or as I call it, "The coolest thing I have seen in a long time".

I have been given the gift of gab, or the curse heh. While surfing the net I came across ViroPOP and instantly felt I had found common virtual ground, being able to voice my ideas and feelings here is a great feeling. When I first started to write a blog I was a little leery, not sure how it would go over among regulars, as I have found sometimes cliques develop on some sites. Not on ViroPOP, people here are so friendly and open to what you have to say.

You can imagine then how I felt when I w… Continue

The Price We Pay.

At times I find myself unarmed when it comes to discussions with people, we may not have all the answers but, taking a step in the right direction is always a good start. Today, I had two conversations that bothered me, and frankly left me feeling drained of my energy. So how do you deal with negative people who only see "the problems"? I'd love to know how you'd handle it.

My first conversation was this morning, I was sitting waiting for the school bus, we live in a rural area where people hav… Continue
